Give Akira Kurosawa his due since The Hidden Fortress was the real movie Lucas ripped off.

Damnit! You guys suck. I really liked the Blak Hole when I saw it WWWAAAYYYY back then. So after this discussion I rented it for "Family Movie Night" and watched it with my wife, son , and daughter. Now I have no fond memories of Black Hole and my wife won't let me pick out anymore movies.
1. WTF is with the painted on cartoon eyes on V.I.N.C.E.N.T
2. I'm with outwest. The special effects weren't very special for being post Star Wars (especially given the financial recources of Disney).
3. Where did they go? I still don't understand the ending.
However, that said, my 6 year old was GLUED to the couch. Loved it and wanted to watch it again.
How about one of my favorite from that era with cheesy special effects - Logan's Run. Not even close to the book it was based on but i still liked it.

Thanks for the info about "The Hidden Fortress". I have not seen that movie. I will have to keep an eye out for it. Perhaps we could cut "Star Wars" a little slack and say "inspired by" and not "ripped off"?

I saw "Tron" a long time ago and was lukewarm about it. Unfortunately, the thing that sticks in my mind is being annoyed by the orange color used in places. I should watch it again and give it another chance.
By the way, I see you are in Invercargill. Have you heard of Leach Motorsports? A friend had them do a restoration on his car and he keeps it stored there and visits NZ about once a year. I am pretty sure that Leach is in Invercargill.

I am very sorry that this movie took some of the lustre off your movie picking status. I am possibly full of it here, but the take I got on the end of the movie was that they passed through the black hole to heaven and hell. Note the scene of Maximillian on the precipice surrounded by flames and looking much like Satan. Then the "good guys" passed through the bright scene with the arches.
