10 seconds ago I heard a *SNAP* from the monitor. IT's a 2002 model 22nd week manufacturer. Now the screen's twitching and it's giving me morse code. HELP! I love this CRT. What should I look for first?

Check the insulator on the Horizontal output transistor. Also look for any burn marks there and around the flyback, top and bottom of the board.

AR
When I was spending some time on big Mitsubishi monitors liberated from Gov Liq, I had two monitors that would produce a loud sharp snap. The arc was from one of the pin connectors on the neckboard to a fairly heavy wire that bridged across the picture tube connectors about 3/8" away. This wire bridge was connected to chassis ground by a flat, braided strap. I looked around on the internet and I think this feature was called a "safety gap". It was to protect the picture tube from excessively high, high voltage. Changing the flyback transformer fixed the problem in both cases.
This advice is likely worth what you paid for it.

Well after about 25 minutes last night it stoped the morse code beeping ( resonation? ) The picture stabilized and only has an ocasional hic-up. I was outta time last night to open it up. I hope to get to it on Sunday time permitting.

I 'uninstalled' that heavy beast last night and put my Princetong Graphics Ultra 95 back in its place. I forgot how good the PG monitor looked.
I'm going to open it up tomorow night. Time permitting as always.

Well tomorow night finaly came. How do you get the case off this beat without butchuring it? I removed the only 3 screws I could see. There are 2 case interlocks towards the top on the sides of the case. I depresed them ( with a screw driver not with digital stories ) but the case won't budge. How does this come apart?
