Hello all. I purchased the original Moome external transcoder box a couple of years ago. I'm talking about this one:

So far I've only had a Dish 622DVR hooked up to it and it worked fine when using either the component or HDMI connection. However, I'm getting ready to buy a BluRay player. Does anyone know of any issues I may run into using this older transcoder box? I'm trying to avoid getting my brand new player home, hooking it up and having it not work. Thanks!

The only problem may be EDID problems in which case you won't be able to get it to work right. Try it out and see.

For what it's worth, the bigger problem is that Moome himself has admitted that the quality out of this box is not great. This old box is pretty soft. It also doesn't have any gamma adjustment. You'll do considerably lot better even with something cheaper like the HDfury.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and ordered an HDFury this afternoon. Maybe I can sell the old Moome box on ebay. The Moome box served its purpose but obviously I want to get the best quality I can (within price limits, of course). I should be able to do a direct comparison when the HDFury gets here.

I guess the only downside is that I'll have to swap cables between my DVR and the BluRay player or splurge for an HDMI switcher.

Do I what do: Use an RTC2200 for switching and gamma boost.

The DVR plugs into the component input of the RTC2200, the Blu-ray player plugs into the HDfury which in turn is plugged into the RGB passthrough of the RTC2200. Both sources then get a nice gamma boost.

I prefer to use component for the DVR instead of HDMI as HDMI is slower when changing channels sometimes.

Quick update. I bought a Samsung BD-P1500 BRD player yesterday and hooked it up via HDMI through the old moome box. Had no handshaking problems of any kind. My HDfury hasn't gotten here yet. I'll post an update when I've had a chance to test it out.
