How tall are your ceilings? If you are using unistrut and the ceilings are at least 10" higher than the "top" (bottom of the inverted PJ) of the PJ, then this is a very simple two person job with very cheap tools. My wife and I have hung up and removed PJs with very little effort. Let me know if you meet this criteria. Smile

Are you ceiling joists parallel or perpendicular to the PJ?

One other thing, I you doing the "single pair" of unistrut mounting, or the "double pair" where one pair runs perpendicular to the joist mounted pair?

OK, here is the tried and true "dave" method--used to mount several projectors.

Basically, your are going to use 2 block and tackles to raise/lower the PJ.

Parts list:
- 2 eyebolts
- 2 unistrut channel nuts (to screw eyebolts into)
- 2 carabiners
- 2 block and tackles (I like these: http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_11839_11839)
- parts to attach block and tackle to PJ

Instructions:
    - Screw the eyebolts into channel nuts.
    - Center one of these in the unistrut mounted near the front of the PJ and one in the unistrut mounted near the back of the PJ.
    - Using a carabiner, attach 1 block and tackle to each eyebolt.
    - Attach the other end of the block and tackle to the PJ (see note 1)
    - With one person on each block and tackle, raise the PJ.
    - Once near its final height, 1 person hands his rope to the other person--who is now supporting the PJ (see note 2).
    - Now "free" person climbs up on ladder and attaches PJ to mount (see note 3).
    - Remove installation hardware

Note 1:
Many Barcos have a slot cut in each leg that is pretty much in the weight center of the PJ. With these, only a carabiner is necessary to attach the block and tackle to the PJ. Others with inferior projectors (i.e. non-Barcos Wink) may need more elaborate mechanisms, but it still should not be that hard. As I recall, Marquees also were relatively easy to attach to.

Note 2:
The reason for 2 block and tackles is independent control of the front and rear. Thus, the person can hold the "front" control in one hand and the "back" control in the other and have the necessary attitude control to properly orient it as the other person attaches it to the mount.

Note 3:
The front of the projector is heavier than the rear of the projector. The front should be attached first (and if lowering, detached last).

As an FYI, my wife has helped me raise and lower projectors with this method. As no surprise, she has been the one on the ladder, not the one holding the PJs. Wink I also let her be the one that raises or lowers the back of the PJ as it is lighter (with my recommended block and tackles, the weight of the rear of a Barco is less than 20 lbs).

my rafters appear to be running perp. to the screen. so my thoughts are this. run a two ft section of unistrut on the two closest to center rafters. 3 lag bolts in each one. then run a single 2' unistrut section across them using spring nuts, that way it can be adjusted front to back. does this sound good so far? then i was going to run threaded rod from that cross bar down to another 2' section that has the 90 degree factory nec brackets to it. so would that be good? because my nec only has two factory mounts to hang it from. am i on the right track?

So the unistruts attached to the joists are parellel to the PJ? But yes, this is perfect.

You lost me here. The PJ is attached to 1 piece of unistrut which is attached to 2 pieces of unistrut which are in turn lag bolted to the joists--correct?

If so, I hate using allthread. Instead, get a peerless unistrut mount:

What I'm unclear about is the attachment to the PJ. But, assuming you use unistrut bolted to the PJ or factory mount slot side up, just use another unistrut mount, or an 8x8 ceiling plate:

Go to home depot and have them cut and thread some 1.5" pipe of the length you need, spay paint it black and use it to join the two mounts together. Looks much better than allthread.

ok so use this one on top where the unistrut is lagged to the rafters? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/largeimages/255282.jpg

and then use pipe to drop it down to this?
http://www.projectormount-store.com/Images/250x400/Peerless_Unistrut_and_Structural_Ceiling_Plate_Projector_Mount_Accessory.jpg

and then my factory mount bolts to unistrut and then use the above piece to hook to the pipe?

Maybe? I thought the piece of unistrut the PJ attached to was not lag bolted in, but attached to the ones that WERE lag bolted in. If so, yes.

Yep, that is my suggestion, but cause it looks very clean. It will cost you about $60 in parts, but I think it looks much better than the cheaper alternatives. YMMV.
