I am really a newbie on CRT projectors
I bought a very cheap and old Panasonic PT-102 and connected to my laptops (intel video card)
It works with s-Video, if I try to connect using the external monitor port and RGBHV breakout cable it shows 9 or 10 smaller images aligned horizontally.
Any clues?

Hello

The 102 is probably not capable of scanning faster than 480i for video; you will need a more advanced system for computer or HDTV.

I have tried changing the resolution to 640x480, it still shows multiple images

That's 480p and you will get two images on that set. You need to run 320 x 240 which most video cards won't do. You're stuck with video or Svideo on this set, that's all it will do, sorry!

I am somewhat surprised. The manual for PT-101C/N says that it will show 1000 lines in RGB

Hello

1000 vertical lines, a test of horizontal resolution, not scanning range.

I always thought that was total bull sh*t when companies would make claims like that. I would read those specs and say WTF?

As the video amplifier circuits got better, the bandwidth got higher. I believe a set like that when new would do that, the tube faces were pretty large, but the plastic lenses killed all chances of 1000 lines being seen on the screen.

It could also be just a measurement of the video CIRCUITS and not the tube itself, just like the 2500X 2500 claims of resolution are of a 9500 Ultra or XG 135.

Sorry again but just to learn for the next time
On the front of the manual it says

RGB resolution more than 900 TV lines
Video resolution more than 600 TV lines
RGB character reproduction : equivalent to 2000 characters (80x25)

This seems to a VGA (640x480) monitor.

p.s. by the way if someone is interested I have got the PT-101 user and service manuals
ANy plce where I can put them?[/img]

THat's because the RGB input bypasses a lot of the internal video signals. Again, it's how many vertical lines you can distinguish, alternating black and white before they all become a blur. As I said above, that's in the circuits though, most likely not on the tube face itself.

The PT 102 is identical to the PT 101 (I think), it's just the 220 volt version.

If you want, email Kal the manuals, and he'll put them on the main site if they are not there already.

Cheers!
