Hi everyone,

I own a ECP 4100 (my first PJ Very Happy) since a few months and I absolutely love it. I went through the setup a few times to get a good picture.

About a week ago, after I watched a movie I switched resolution to play a game. But suddenly the picture went all bad and weird. Colors went crazy, the picture moved horizontal and vertical.

I decided to turn the PJ off and back on but the picture still went crazy. I tried a second time switching on and off but still a crazy picture and this time I remarked that my PJ was very silent; apparently the fans stopped working. I noticed that when I turned the PJ on, the error led in the back lights up together with the v.inhibit and h.inhibit led for a few seconds. After that they went off and the ready led goes on.

I've tried to attach other sources, other cables, done a hard reset and removed all cards in the back and re-inserted them. But nothing has helped so far; it made it even worse: since I removed and re-inserted the cards I don't get a picture anymore Crying or Very sad .

So at this moment I don't have a clue what to do. I'm not the greatest technician but with some clear guidelines and, if necessary, some pictures I'm willing to open up this machine and do some more checking and hopefully repair it.

Is there someone who knows what could be the problem or had a similar problem and can help me?

I would like to thank you in advance for reading my problem.

Kind regards

Dave

ps: I also would like to thank everyone who contributes to this forum, I've found a lot of useful information when I installed my PJ and couldn't done it without this info!

Hello

If the fans have stopped you may have lost that voltage from the low voltage power supply,

Thanks for the feedback.

Is there a way I could check this or repair this?

A no fan condition would indicate a bad power supply to me. Are all of the green LEDs on on the back of the set? Frankly I've never had that, but have lots of LVPS in good working shape that I can sell cheap if you want another confirmed working one. There's no schematics for these SMPS, so I usually just replace them rather than trying to repair them.

Thanks for your reply.

When I turn the PJ on, the leds of h.inhibit, v.inhibit and error turn on for a few seconds. After that all leds are green like it should be normally.

I would like to test with a working power unit but I expect high transport costs (I live in Belgium), so before I buy a working unit, I would like to try everything that's possible to be sure it is the power unit.

Maybe I going to open up the PJ and check the LVPS. Smile

(btw what's SMPS? Embarassed )

If all LEDs are green, then it SHOULD be OK, but I have not traced the fan circuit to see if they tie in to one of the green LEDs. Are you sure the connector hasn't just fallen off the main board? All 4 fans tie into one connector that connects to the.. .motherboard.. I think.

SMPS = switch mode power supply = LVPS..Smile

Hmmm, I'm going to try to open up the pj tonight and look if the fans are still connected. But I would think it's strange that it would have disconnected suddenly from itself :s. But I'll try Smile
