|
|
Folks,
Does anyone have any experience with extending the IR remote from the Barco data 808S and moving it 30 feet to the equipment cabinet. I have a Harmony 1000 and I want to get all the IR receivers lined in the same place (without having to buy a Harmony extender!) for the one-button power up to work.
Before I take things apart I would like to get some sense of whether sending the IR signal down 30 feet of CAT5 cable would be an issue. Anyone try this yet?
And which do you think would be easier to access, the one in the front or the one in the rear of the pj? I have a spare IR reciever that a generous form member sent me last year.
A less important question -- is there a source for the 4 prong connector that you could suggest. I tried my local electronic surplus store (in Toronto) ... but no luck.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Barco have solution for this, it uses D9-D9 communication cable between projector and module.

I'm going to extend rear ir receiver module cable about feet, so I can install module to hushbox wall. This is much easier to use than front sensor, because front sensor is installed to big communication board. Not sure how long this module cable can be extended without problems.

I would take the rear IR sensor out of the set. Make sure the ground wire is connected to the shield of a 22/2 wire. I've extended them 50' with no issues, but not with CAT5. There's a data signal on one of the pins, and I'd think that would need to be shielded in order to work properly.
Otherwise look up IR extender on ebay. There's lots of brands that make IR sensors, distribution blocks and flashers for cheap.

I did this with my old BG800. I ripped out the rear IR sensor box from the back of the projector and extended it about 30 feet using cheap regular POTS (phone wire) cabling to my rack. Worked fine for the 5 years I did it.
I'd recommend you do the opposite though (which I did with my current projector): Extend to the projector instead.

Why not buy a proper IR distribution system? They are pretty cheap these days, especially used.

Gentlemen ... all,
Thanks for the sage advice. After listening to the experts, I am going to invest in the Harmony extender.
