Can I test my xg 1351lc with a tube from an xg 750?

I believe my green tube is shorted on my xg 1351lc. Does anyone know if I can test it by replacing it with a tube from a non-lc 750 machine?

Yes, the tubes are identical, so temporarily putting one in will work fine. Make sure the tube is grounded though, otherwise you'll have HV arcs flying from the outside of the tube to the chassis. An alligator clip from the tube frame to the chassis will work fine.

Thanks again Curt. You told me on the phone Friday my green tube from VDC must be shorted. I thought of swapping it with an old tube from my 750 to be sure.

Ahhh, the magic word "VDC" of course the tube will be the culprit. Look at the electron gun through the neck before you bother subbing in another tube. I've had a tube from VDC that had the electron gun mounted SO BADLY ASKEW you could see it was clearly not done properly through the glass of the tube neck. Needless to say, it didn't work right and had to go back at my expense. VDC's motto should be "Incompetence personified!".

VDC is nothing but trouble, if you ask me, they have such a low success rate(or tremendously high failure rate) its almost comical...You're just lucky one of their abortions didn't fry your set...

Paul, tell us how you REALLY feel about VDC. Laughing I recall another post where you mentioned to never buy a rebuilt tube from them. Sounds like repairing/rebuilding these must be a lost art.
