I thought they were problematic? Also, they do do TrueHD but not DTS-MA. I've not looked at all the BD software that deep yet, but is that a concern? In other words, are there DTS-MA discs that don't have TrueHD also? |
i use the analog outs exclusivly to my adcom 830. I am pretty sure i have picked from the audio on the LG 5.1 LPCM or is it LCPM? well isnt that master audio? and it does do true HD also, and they keep comming out with new firmwear.
they are also suppose to be comming out with the BH300 that is rumored to re introduce the analog outs that they took out of the BH200.

With all the chatter about lossless formats and which player does what via the analog,.. I couldn't hold out and put in a order for a Denon 778 with HDMI Audio. Supposedly it's a good match for the PS3 and I couldn't ignore refurbished units for $304.
I hope it's not the start of problems (regarding HDMI handshake stuff.)
I figure upgrading to HDMI audio has advantages of it's own and I hope I'm right.
(Can't wait to hear the HD Audio tracks.)

I have my PS3 connected up to my Yamaha RX-V992 via optical and the sound is the best I've heard come out of the Yammy. I only have one BD movie (Gone baby gone). I found myself ducking during the gun fire. That's good enough for me. If there's more sound to be had, I doubt it out weighs the versatility of the PS3 and I'f I get this streaming thing down pat between the PC and PS3, it's a no brainer.

Funny, when I got the HD DVD player and it did not do TrueHD, I just hooked it up via optical. I was impressed at the higher bit rate sound also. Then the firmware update to allow TrueHD decoding came out so I hooked it up via analog. I was like Holy sh*t Batman!!!! CD quality audio out of every channel! I just can't go back!

Just the sort of stuff I want to read about whilst waiting for my HDMI audio AVR to be shipped. Tom Petty is right the waiting is the hardest part.

Mike, I don't think I got the point of this post in the context. Could you clarify.

Well,
My HDMI Audio AVR came and gave me a world of pain. Something about the HDFury and Denon AVRs was in need of a fix (hack) but in the end the fix took just a few seconds and everything works great now.
Upgrading to HDMI Audio may involve a bit of dough and then it may be buggy too but I think it's the best route.
If you liked Toslink... You'll love HDMI Audio.

Brian, no elaboration on what DVR you bought, for how much, and what trickery you had to employ? How about video lagging the audio?

Hey,
Sorry no DVR. I bought a Denon 788 AVR for $346 shipped. It was refurbed but seems like new. They are or were on sale this week at Circuit City for $399 with a free $75 gift card making the price effectively $325 if you have other stuff at CC you want or need.
Anyway,.. I had a Denon 2700 and now this new AVR has HDMI Audio and it sounds night and day better. Maybe that's because of the age of the 2700 or maybe there was something wrong with it. (I often thought my speakers had some problem but now I think it was my AVR that was either bad or poorly setup.)
Any AVR with HDMI Audio will play all the HD Audio formats via the PS3 if you send them out as LPCM. So,.. older HDMI Audio AVR's that lack certain decoders can still be used to playback every format.
Also,.. there is a bug with DTS HD Audio that can cause some AVRs to mis-read the signal and send noise which damages speaker systems,.. but, having the PS3 do the decoding internally and outputing LPCM this can never happen.
Anyway,... I had a problem getting the new AVR to work with my HDFury but as soon as I got around that I was and still am thrilled with it. It almost seems like it makes the picture quality better which I realize makes no sense but I guess it's just more engaging which lets me get more "into" whatever I'm watching and that's why it seems that way.

Well, I have to say THANKS ATHANASIOS!!!!!!!
On your recommendation, I got a BH100. These are available at quite reasonable prices now. I'm amazed at the video quality of this puppy. Beautiful 1080p/24 output! The picutre is much cleaner than my HD-A1 on my HD DVDs. The difference in Transformers was amazing. In the HD-A1, it had a lot of noise in the picture. With BH100 the picture is every bit as sharp and there is less noise!
Unless something goes terribly wrong, I love this thing. Great recommendation--thanks again!

But surely you still see the film grain that we saw in Transformers with your HD-A1?? That was the major "noise" I noticed.

Thanks Dave!!!!!!!
I actually was going to get another one but went for the BH 200 instead....it came over a week ago but still havnt hooked it up ! Been messing around with my Eye one and HFCR, love it !!! Yeah the BH 100 was a very underated player i got it the first day it came out, and have never had a problem with it, just keep up on the updates, and now we are working on trying to figure out how to make it region free for both SD DVD;s(that is done) and Blu ray region free, I dont have any euro BD to test wth though so the other guys on avs are doing all the leg work. I cant wait for the BH 300 to come out too!!!! Well I hope it comes out and most likely will be the last multi format player.

The film grain is there but there was also alot of other noise in it. It would stop movie when you paused the movie so it was in the source. Everybody else's system I've seen Transformers on looked like mine. The noise sort of made the picture "harsh" also. With the LG the noise is less than half. I'm going to do some research to figure out what is up. All I can figure is that the LG has some very effective DNR which does not harm the picture. All I can say is you would not believe the difference. I was A/Bing them last night. The picture is cleaner on all content (looked at Batman Begins, Happy Feet, Corpse Bride, Serenity, and Transformers), but with Transformers the difference is amazing.
