I only frequent the "Local HDTV Info and Reception" forum to keep up with guys in my area and because CZ Eddie won't go to lunch with me when I'm in Texas.

Another example of how heavy-handed they've gotten. IMHO there are very few excuses to ban someone PERMANENTLY, unless they are egregious repeat offenders.

If I remember correctly, then Tom was banned for linking to the Evil Twin.
I believe most of the CRTers are over here, because of all of the CRT related info. Since all of the accessory equipment over there is usually geared towards the digital, one has to search for the CRT specific threads. It is just easier to get your answers over here(Dave's tough love not withstanding:)).

Actually my PM's were being blocked by someone at AVS but could not find out who or why so I posted a link to my PM address at the Evil Twin to on AVS member on an AVS thread.
Next day after a spotless record and 7 years on AVS I was banned for life 
I'm sure being a moderator on the ET didn't help things ...

I like this!! I can not believe this post is still there....
Yeah, I've seen your ads in the for sale section (next to mine ). It seems the CRT sales are slowing down a bit (and with the tax rebates, I thought they would pick up for a bit ). Amazing too since a CRT still looks better than a digital priced at double the going rate of a used CRT. For instance, a P16 tubed 8" LC machine looks WAAAY better than any 1080p LCD (and I've seen them all), and can be had for half the price of them.
Anyone want to play a game of "Name that sh*t Disturber!!" it is almost like he is taunting them.....almost.

You probably remember that better than me. I think the problem was there was a lot of linking to ET and other things going on. I think they just decided to carpet bomb instead of choosing and selecting. I didn't agree with it, but what are you going to do. Of course, we were trying to get ET going as a suitable open and non-biased forum. You know Dave, myself and others were pushing for it to become an advanced CRT forum and maybe eventually morph into what Kal and Curt have here. I applaud what Kal has done with this forum, but at the time I thought this forum was a slap in the face to ET. I still do to a small degree, but Kal's knowledge, experience and dedication has made this forum much greater than ET probably ever would have been. Of course, this forum took off because a couple of people started posting over here a great deal including a former ET mod instead of over there which I could never understand. Like I said, this forum is probably better than ET would have ever been. The only issue I see here is the bias that some times takes place.

You guys and your conspiracy theories.
Here's how avs works:
Alan owns the HT/installation end of things, that really is unrelated to avsforum. While their site started originally as a HT chat for their own customers, it morphed into something much more.
David Bott runs the whole forum, and makes his money from the ads on the forum. With the size of avs, that's a goodly chunk of money generated, but there's also big costs to run/maintain that forum.
The only reason this forum started was due to Kyser's actions a while back. THat's really the only reason. I personally know nothing about web design, it was my last g/f that suggested that I put up my own forum here when I was bitching about Kyser's moderation tactics to her.
I didn't do anything for or against the ET, I think the whole name of 'Evil Twin' was designed to be a slap to avs, but that's my opinion, and while I looked at it on occasion, I can't remember if I was even signed up for it. I know that I was frustrated with the amount of downtime it had, so I never bothered going there. I can literally base 50% of my success due to avs, the other 50% due to eBay exposure (during the timeline before this site existed), so I owe avs lots and lots of love.
Based on the lack of action over there, I really don't think anyone at avs cares what really goes on in the CRT forum at this point. CRT sales are a non issue for avs at this point, so there aren't a lot of people that are running CRTs that will be buying stuff through the banner ads as a result of simply being a CRT owner. Of course, those CRT owners all have audio systems, so I'll bet everyone is still active in the various other forums there.
I personally have never bought into the consipiracy theoies that you guys have thrown around about avs. CRTs simply have dropped off the radar as being important in the big scheme of things that do generate money at avs.

I think this forum combines the best of both worlds. Curt and Kal have worked very hard on this forum and I must say they have done a wonderful job !
Lots of the things we could not openly talk about on AVS we were able to discuss on the ET so in that respect it served it's purpose and may it RIP.
I fully support this forum and have no regrets. Just keep up the good work. As for AVS without them many of us would not be here right now. I carry no ill will towards AVS with the exception of one moderator with a gun fetish .....
AVS shot themselves in the foot with that guy !

Curt,
I agree. I don't see any conspiracy. I think during that time they just didn't want the hassle.
The ET was started as a place to talk about those products that were not legal. I know Dave and I were hoping that it would become more of an advanced forum. Yes, you signed up and even posted a couple of times. At this point, it is moot. Kal has done an excellent job with this place and probably better than anything that the ET could have done.
As for dropping off the radar, I think they dropped off the radar a long time ago as far as AVS is concerned. My guess is they are hoping that CRTers will buy accessories and such from them or their sponsors until they eventually purchase a digital pj from them or their sponsors.

I still think the ban on service manuals at this point in time is a bit lame. After all how are we going to know what boards to send to Curt to repair ?
