Alan's obituary can be seen here:

I'll quote it in case the link stops working.

RED WING -- A memorial service for Alan L. Halvorson will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing, with the Rev. Thomas M. Kommers officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Red Wing.

Mr. Halvorson, 58, of Red Wing, died unexpectedly Friday (April 11, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, of a brain aneurysm.

Alan Lee Halvorson was born April 15, 1949, in Red Wing. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1967, and attended the University of Minnesota. He lived in Red Wing and was employed at Pittsburg Plate Glass, Red Wing Sewer Pipe, and American Hoist & Derrick, where he was a boom welder. He also partnered with his father who was a carpenter/contractor. He later became a computer programmer, spending 10 years with Citizen's Security Insurance, followed by time with Harmon Glass, Insurity, and consulting for JMH Computer Services. He enjoyed movies, music, electronics, hunting and golf. He was the 1983 Club Champion at Red Wing Country Club. He also enjoyed big game hunting out west with his brother, and watching his nephew play sports.

Survivors include his mother, Lucy of Red Wing; two brothers, Mike (Sue) and Dan (Marlene), both of Red Wing; a sister, Nancy (John) Bunten of Black Diamond, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Luther "Luke," and a sister, Diane Ilami.

Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church

Memorials are preferred to the family.

Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel of Red Wing is in charge of arrangements.

I didn't know Moose personally. But like many others on this forum he was a cyber friend of sorts. I don't recall ever responding in the same thread as him, and I don't recall any specific conversations that included Moose. But also, like many faceless names here, he was a significant part of a small corner in my life. I am deeply saddened. My best friend passed away two years ago in the same way, and about the same age. I miss him terribly. I feel for Moose's family, his friends, and an obviously loving nephew.

May he enjoy eternity watching perfectly converged stacked/blended 9" CRT's.

Wow, you guys are fantastic. Thanks for having such compassion.

I do appreciate the membership as well, while I am not near the audio/videophile that Alan was, I do have strong interest in HT and will do my best to keep his passion alive.

Hopefully Alan is where new parts are plentiful, the tube are always minty, and the white are pure and uniform.

It's a strange thing posting on an internet forum like this. For the most part the usernames are just that, just a set of anonymous people that post thoughts and views on topics we like to read about, argue with and gain knowledge from. Sometimes you are fortunate enough to meet some of the people and that adds something to these anonymous posts, but for the most part you don't know anything of the name. I have never met 'moose' nor had any dealings with him, however I have read his posts and been interested in many of the things he wrote as obviously someone with lots of passion for his favourite hobby.

When something like this unfortunately happens, the people suddenly become real, not just a username, but a person with family and friends. This is a sad loss for his loved ones and also for the wider CRT community. May the pain felt by Alan's family and friends be tempered in some small way by the knowledge you are not greiving alone, he was one of the genuine "nice guys" around here and will be sorely missed by those of us who would be pleased to call him a friend.
