I'm looking for input from guys that have mounted a barco to the ceiling with something other than a factory type mount. The pj has a big plate that covers the whole bottom with two L shaped rails front and rear, Has anyone used unistrut or some other easily located material? I have some ideas but would like to hear some others.

I was thinking about something similar to that but I want to be able to mount the rear of the pj lower to get the projection angle closer to zero.

The easiest is similar to the posted wood pic. If you need a drop, just bolt a 1.5" pipe fitting, or a peerless 8x8 ceiling mount to the wood.

Anther option is to bolt two pieces of unistrut on top of the "legs" parrellel with the legs. The put two pieces of unistrut on those running the length of the PJ. Then, attache one of those Peerless 8x8 ceiling plates to those two pieces of unistrut.

I already have a unistrut mount holding the 1272 up in the rafters that has four threaded rods to mount to. I think bolting some 1/4" thick aluminum angle along the length of the rails and using a clevis to attach each rod to the angle wil allow me to have the flexibilty in adjustment that I want to get. I think I need to have the rear of the projector down at a 14 degree angle to get the lenses near parallel with the screen. Anyone got suggestions?

Barcos have a built in projection angle of 10.5 degrees. You would tilt the back of the projection down 10.5 degrees ONLY if the center of the lens are in the EXACT vertical center of the screen (surely you don't have it mounted this low, do you?). If your PJ is mounted pretty much where LENS tells you to mount it (relative to the screen), then the barco should be mounted flat (i.e. the bottom of the PJ should be EXACTLY perpendicular to the plane of the screen).

BTW, this is pretty much the same as all CRTs.

I have the 1272 mounted at about 8 degrees up from parallel and it seems to work well in the room. anyone over 6 ft needs to duck, but the viewers eyes are at about 10 degrees down. It seems to work pretty well, the projector is just above the line of sight to the top of the screen. It sounds like I will only need to tilt the back down about 2 or 3 degrees. I can see from the tube faces that the previous owner has the rasters nearly perfectly rectangular with almost no keystone at all.

Just a bit over the top of a 16:9 screen is about right. Have you seen where LENS says to mount it. On an "average" 16:9 screen, the bottom of the barco should be about 3-4" above the top of the screen.

I have not downloaded the Lens program yet, I was going to figure out the throw distance by moving the pj front to back to get it to fill the screen width and then adjust the angle and height accordingly. The rasters are wide open.

This is the best way to size it, but even with this, LENS will get you pretty close to the vertical position (within .25" with maximized rasters). If you are mounting lower than what LENS says, then you will need to drop the butt down some.

I'm going to try to get it as low as possible without it getting in the way, visually or physically. I have some very tall friends (6'6") and they will just have to watch out. They should very good at ducking, they have to do it all the time.

I got to say, that is one of the totally awesome things about the lenses on the Cine 8 Onyx. My PJ is mounted right above the first row of seats. And although low, you have to try to bump your head on it by standing on the seats. Smile

My Barco will be pretty low over the top riser when I get everything done, but oh well. I am considering building something around the projector for protection; if somebody hits their head on it, they might ruin the convergence.

I found that my row of seats is right under my Barco, butting up against the riser. You kind of have to lean in from the back to even get close to the back of the projector.

Got the nine incher up tonite, well hung in all it's Runco glory.... but it's still got a ways to go til it's gonna show a movie. I hooked up the same source I used on the 1272 and it had trouble finding it.. seems like it wants to use either block 4 or 5, neither one very well. I'll have to spend some time setting it up right Smile

You got up the well-hung 9-incher? Good god, man - have you been buying things advertised in those emails, or what? Smile

Glad to hear you could finally get it up! Some people have a lot of trouble getting theirs up. Did you get it up alone, or did you have help? What method did you use? What did you do with it after you got it up?

It took a block and tackle to get it up so I had one of the girls do the pulling and hold it up while I attached the four steel struts that will keep it up for many years to come. I made a couple of rails that attached to the bottom of the pj and some clevises to attach the threaded rods to the rails. I'll post pics later today.
