I picked up a PS3 today that will be my b-day present, so now I'm interested hearing what people think are the best remote options.

I've seen posts on this before, and have gone through a couple already, but is there one setup that people think is better than another?

My plan is to use it with my Harmony 880.

I recall seeing a link several weeks back (from Kal I think) to USB device that seemed to integrate with the system quite nicely (and was ~$35), but I have not been able to find the thread that had this.

Does anyone have experience with it, or again is there a consensus that says some other device is best?

IR to USB options:

$20 = Nyko, no power on/off, generally fine from reports
$35 = Smartz PS3IR same features, reportedly better implimentation, I have one, works fine - http://www.schmartstuff.com/

Then the IR to bluetooth

$55 (+ship) = IR2BT IR 2 BT box - - everyone says it works fine. Allows you to power up and down. limited supply.
$75 = PS3-PRO, similar features, not sure if its available yet. Supposedly will be firmware flashable. http://www.schmartstuff.com/

There is a third one, might be vapor ps3toothfairy or something. Search AVS.

That's the one I couldn't find the post on. I'll probably give it a try.

Hi,

I bought a cheap generic ps2 remote with sensor and have used that since getting my Ps3 back in Nov 06.

That remote was like $3 new and has backlighting which is cool but you needed to pair it with a PS2 to USB adapter which isn't needed by the nyko.

At some point though I picked up the original Ps2 remote with sensor thinking that would be better but some of the IR codes conflicted with my Sony CRT FP so I took that one back to gamestop.

I've heard good things about the Nyko and some gamestops have them cheap.

If you play games too you may want to unplug the IR thingie when playing games. It maps to controller 1 by default which many games look for as the main controller. And while it's hooked up I don't think the tilt function works correctly on other controllers (that's my experience anyway.) So,.. If I'm going to be playing games I unplug the IR sensor. (I have it plugged in perhaps 99% of the time because I mostly just watch movies with my Ps3.)
