There is a thread on the "A" site titled. "Beware of LCD projects for long term use"

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1019743&page=2

In the thread I posted:

Get a CRT, 11 years old and it produces an image like this.

Am I going to digital hell now?

Mike

You know why Lilu has that look on her face, she was looking at a picture of herself being shown on an LCD projector when they filmed it. Wink

BTW, was that baby being sold on ebay?
Packing peanuts are not very good as they offer little protection when the contents of the package can move. Razz

Why do the mods close all threads when a god discussion starts over on AVS. It really is a terrible place where you cannot open your mouth without getting edited, threads closed, banned, shot or worse!

Long live free speech over here. Mr. Green

well you could post OF an 11 year old LCD, just not of one producing a picture. Those guys over there get paid by sponsors selling new equipment, which is all LCD/DLP. I can see why they would kill and competing threads in those forums.
To be honest, I'm surprised they haven't gotten rid of the CRT forum in general. When Kaiser stopped the trolling in the CRT forum by digital guys strring up crap my jaw hit the floor.

Actually, I've got one. All right - it's not 11 years old; it just turned 10 this month. Pretty lousy black level and the convergence isn't perfect at the corners (it's a 3-panel) but zero screen door and the colors aren't bad. I'll try to get a screenshot off it. XGA, too... that thing must have been hot sh*t in '98.

If it is from 1998, its on/off contrast ratio is about 130:1. WOW! Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green

Yeah, I wouldn't describe its contrast stats as 'stellar'. Smile Still, the fill rate is basically perfect, better than the 1080p Mitsubishi we got last year. It's kind of odd, I didn't think they could do that then. And the only LCD projectors I remember seeing that far back were these truly awful single panel things that made big stripes...

It's got pretty good control over color, though, and my friend and I managed to find the serial port control software for it somehow.

Oddly, too, it barely hotspots at all; it seems at least as good as the 808 and way better than the 2003-vintage DLP I've got.

I'm planning on hanging it under the Barco and using it for gaming. It's got about 1100 hours on the clock so I don't expect much more than another 500 out of it, but I've got some more digitals waiting in the wings anyway. Thumbs Up
