I have been previously asked by members to send screenshots, yet every time I try I get the picture either too dark to be any good or blury because of movement within the projected image. My camera is only a 6 megapixel Fuji with pocket camera type adjustments. Do you guys pause the image to take the shot? as the camera automatically adjusts to longer exposure due to the lack of light, resulting in a blurred image.

i think they pause and use a tripod, any movement will be a little blurry.

Use a tripod, pause the image on the DVD player. Make sure you turn the flash off on your camera.

Yes I have always used a tripod and no flash but with maximum aperture and the resulting slow shutter still does not get a satisfactory result, perhaps I need a better camera

May I ask why someone is asking for screen shot? I enjoy taking screen shots but you must be in a very controlled environment to make any kind of judgment on picture quality based on a screen shot.

This is the perfect thread to post this in. Last weekend I was playing round with some screen shots and thought I would compare SD to HD off the same movie. The standard reference disks would be The Fifth Element I only own the original DVD and 2nd release Blu-ray so that’s what I used for this test, some say Super Bit was maybe slightly better but I used what I had.

I used my brothers Canon 1Ds Mark III for the shots it's a very high resolution 21MP Pro DSLR. The resolution on the original image was 5616X3744 and I applied NO post sharpening filter.

The image sized to a width of 720px as no surprise HD looks better, but not by much.

Blu-ray

SD-DVD

Resizing the image to 1200px wide the difference becomes more apparent, but still the SD-DVD looks decent.

Blu-ray

SD-DVD

Now 1920px wide the native width of a blu-ray. Much more detail in the Blu-ray and the DVD starts to fall apart bad, the difference on an actual screen is much more obvious I don’t know how I was even able to watch an SD-DVD they look so bad now.

Blu-ray

SD-DVD

I took a few others comparing SD to Blu-ray if anyone would like to see them, I can post them.

Mike the one thing besides resolution that makes blu-ray a lot nicer is the colors as you can easily see in your comparison shots.

This is very true the color is much better on the Blu-ray, I'm torn here! I really thought the difference would be much more apparent, it certainly is on the screen (In real life). Like I said, SD looks horrible! I haven't watched one in months but looking at the shots there are not that much difference.
