Ok,

Just got it all hooked up...

PS3 ----> DVDO VP-50 ---> Moome EXT HT ----> Barco Onyx 8 (zenith)

Setup was fairly easy...

Still unsure on which of the Dig Audio options I need to have checked (there are way too many choices) as I am running a Lexicon MC-8...

It came w/ Spiderman 3 BluRay

The PQ w/o any tweeking was really good. If was a 20% improvement over the SD version of the movie... I was expecting more, but it could just be the movie. I had seen it on DirecTv HD and it looked alot sharper...

Dont know what is with my audio, but I have lost my low end (sub)..... Possibly a setting?

For the $299 I paid for it (new) it is def worth it and it actually looks really good in my rack!

I hope the PS3 can breathe in your rack..

Did you set your resolution to 1080i?

I would say for audio just set the optical to bitstream and that's it...no?

20% improvement? It should be more like 200%! It should be considerably sharper with much better colours and less noise than SD DVD.

What resolution are you running? Is it set up in the projector yet? (Ie: convergence, greyscale, etc).

It should look better than any DirectTV broadcast. If it doesn't something's not right with the setup.
Set audio to bitstream if your prepro's doing the audio decoding (which the very good MC-8 definitely does).

Yeah, what resolution do you have the PS3 set to output? My PS3 via HD Fury looks superior to DirecTV HD, and I'm not running nearly as good of a projector as you (yet). I'd characterize the difference as between a 6 and a 10. A better machine like the Onyx should reveal even more difference between the two sources.

It was a totally first impression! I didnt even watch more then a few minutes of the movie. I havent calibrated the projector yet, but what I noticed first was that there wasnt a blow me away amount of difference between DTV HD or even the SD Spiderman 3 in sharpness.

I am very impressed with my marantz DV9600 and hte DVDO 50vp's ability to make SD DVD's look alot better (no, not like HD Shocked

I did switch it to bitstream (thx Kal!!!) The PJ locks at 59.94 @ 1080p . I am going to play w some custom resolutions tommorow (it was too nice of a day not to be on the harley!)

I still have lost my low freq.... Not blaming it on the PS3 yet, I did alot of cable yanking so I will check on this too...

Dont get me wrong, it really is a great Picture quality, but does not touch the OTA HD of the PBS station in chgo, which blows me away...

I am very happy with the purchase and just need to pick a remote control...

Either the one Kal has (nyko) the BT-IR box or the one from Smartz..

for $299.00 I am not complaining... But the projecter needs a major setup since all sources went HDMI now....

(and need to tweek moome)

Yep you definitely need to set things up well. None of the OTA HD should be blow you away more than Blu-ray. Unless you mean PBS content shot in video (not film) mode. A lot of people like the "live" look of content shot on video. It's a completely different feeling.

Assessing how good Blu-ray looks on your projector is somewhat meaningless if nothing is set up yet! Smile
