|
|
Hi,
I have a 1031qm projector and would like to connect it to my HTPC with ATI video card and powerstrip. The projector works fine with a composite signal, but is seems that the RGBHV scart input does not work correctly.
If I connect my dvd player to the composite input of the projector and switch to RGB1 or RGB2, it still projects the composite signal. is this normal?
If I connect my vga2scart cable (this cable is ok) and use powerstrip with correct settings it simply projects the composite signal or it projects nothing if I disconnect the composite cable. I've tried a blanking voltage (1v-3v according to the manual) on pin 16 at the scart connector, but the projector does not switch to RGBHV.
Any thoughts / solutions? Thanks in advance.
AJ.

Not sure how many people have seen the European version of the 1031. I've never had a composite/RGB switching problem with the 1031, but I have a lot of boards here that I'm more or less giving away for the price of shipping if you want to try swapping a board. I don't have a SCART input board though, the ones I have all have the 25 pin sub D connector on them.

Curt,
Thank you for the offer. I just downloaded the service manual and first try to figure out what could be the problem. If I can't figure it out, I try to swap the input board. For my information, if you switch from to RGB1 or RGB2 without something connected to that inputs, does it still give the composite signal from video in?

When switching to RGB 1 or 2, the composite image should disappear (at least on the 1031Q it does). The problem is most likely in the switching circuit, not the input board, so I would try replacing that one (DB board), and see if it resolves the issue.

If I remember it correctly...
The SCART input needs composite sync to work. If you want to connect your computer you need to merge the H and V in your RGBHV. The composite sync is then connected to the composite video pin on the scart. Such a merger takes an evening to make yourself with a bit of help from the internet. The result is a slightly smaller picture compared to composite. (I have never seen a VGA2SCART cable from a store that is able to do this merge. Check where H & V in your VGA side ends up in the scart side. I have seen several of these cables that are component to scart labeled as RGB2SCART due to the colors.)
Mind that there is no protection at all from blowing the 1031 up if you use too high resolution (32kHz I believe, i.e. 576p at 50Hz). These units were designed when 1080p wasn't yet invented.
Just one more thing: I'm pretty sure there is a switch close to the SCART input to manually choose between composite and RGB when connected to e.g. a DVD player (that gives RGBs and composite on the SCART). If you have it set up this way you should notice a size change when toggling the switch (RGBs have smaller size).
A good thing with this PJ (1030/1031) is that you can change easily between 4:3 and 16:9 just by turning the horizontal size knob on the adjustment board. Drill a hole for easy access + plastic screwdriver.

Just a update:
After some measuring I replaced 2 components (nands) wich where defective. on the BB board IC707 (4011b) and the input board IC6 (SN74LS00N). Input switching works ok now! I still can't get a image from my pc with a vga2scart cable, but with s-video and switching to 'superimpose' the scart input works. This does not say anything, but the input select is functioning.
Erik, Thanks for you're reply. I'm quite sure my vga2scart cable is ok, so maybe there are more components defective. The next step.......

There is no S-video capabilities on the 1031. The SCART-standard doesn't, as far as I know, support s-video even though most TV-sets accept s-video through the SCART. Could this be your problem, that you expect s-video to work on your 1031?

I have a european 1031 and I feed him throught the scart from a PCHC with an ATI card.
it works perfectly well.
I built myself the HD15 to SCART cable with the following specs.
maybe you should control your cable. this one works, I recommand that you make yours exactly similar.
European 1031QM:
HD15 -> SCART
---------------------------------------
1 -> 15 // Red
2 -> 11 // Green
3 -> 7 // Blue
6 -> 13 // Red ground
7 -> 9 // Green ground
8 -> 5 // Blue ground
10 -> 17 // Sync ground
13 -> 20 // Horizontal Sync
14 -> 20 // Vertical Sync

Problem solved. I'm a idiot....
After solving the input switching problem (this was a real physical problem) the projector was OK.
My cable was OK.
The problem is that I used a DVI to VGA convertor with ATI HD3650 card. After connecting the projector to a old video card with VGA output it works on the DVi ouput of this card it does not work. So now I'm wondering how to connect it to my video card wich does not have a vga output but DVI only. I thought that DVI to VGA = VGA?

that should make no difference. my 1031 have always been pluged onto the DVI output of my ATI video card (I have two output, a VGA and a DVI) using a DVI to VGA (HD15) converter.
it works perfectly.
maybe your converter is faulty??
