OK guys... I hate to say this, but after a lot of work trying to get everything set up in my HT I think I'm going to have to go over to the gray side. I know everybody talks about black levels and film like imagery, but really if I'm honest with myself that stuff just isn't that important... I just need to set it and forget it, you know?

I know I started down this path because I didn't have the money to get a good digital or pay for bulbs, but I just scored a nearly mint Pioneer LCD projector at a computer recycling place... it's only got a few hundred hours on the bulb, and sure it's not much newer than the barco, but it was $30! I can't argue with that, even if the contrast is only 300:1 and the LCD panel convergence isn't so great. It's got power zoom and XGA and at least I don't have to worry about tube burn!

Anyway... it's been fun, guys. I'm sure I'll stop back in with a pic or two when I get my HT up... I'll just make sure I keep the pioneer out of the picture! Wink

I'm sorry... that was a little mean. But, seriously... The ruse wouldn't have lasted long, anyway considering your other thread: It's your fault, you bastards.

Sorry to hear that but I understand...if I squint real hard. Laughing

EDITED: It was too embarassing to leave my display of gullibility (my reply) hanging out there for posterity...I fell for it. Ya got me. Embarassed

Nice Fools Joke. Now reel me in before I spit out the hook. Laughing

But in the '80's you wouldn't have known about the CRT projector's. You would be looking at add's for Toshiba FST 21" TV's and Sony Trinitron with 125 channel cable tuners and mosaic cable tuning with thumbnails. There was some very cool technology in TV's back then.

And don't forget the Beta VCR's with the built in amp. Just add speakers for instant home theater. JVC had the equivilant with a VHS machine. I have one of those. Must weigh 40lbs. Big, heavy, good.

I have a few of the higher end external TV tuners from back then, the analog picture looks great. I'm using a SOny to drive the quadrupler into my Ampro and I have a Proton in the bedroom with rabit ears that looks fantastic.
