As some of you know I refurbish and service digital projectors. Some of the older ones you can't find anything at all for as far as preventative maintenance parts go such as the filters.
The filters in question are the foam type ones where the foam ages or breaks down from the heat of the projector lamp. Some of these filters can be removed with no negative effect in image quality because they just keep dust out of the PSU section, but some of these have filters for the light path and those are required unless you want your image to look like crap after a couple weeks of use.
So what suggestions do you guys have for material that would make good filter substitutes? I have the plastic pieces to attach the material to, it has to be thin, say about 1/8th to 1/16th of an inch thick at most. I have some thin foam similar to the original stuff but it seems rather cheap to use the same crappy material again.

I don't have a clue. I might try some high flow HEPA grade furnace filter material.

How timely, I have been looking too. I need to put a filter on my JVC DILA G11. I cleaned the light path. Which is a PITA. Ran the projector for 2 hours and had blobs on the screen again. Grrrrr
I was at Home Depot a couple of days ago looking at various furnace filter material to see which would work best.

Actually that's a great idea. If I had a spare one around here right now I'd use it. I have to hit the hardware store tomorrow anyway for some lumber, so I'll probably pick one up.
Good thinking!!
