13) HV splitter:

This block splits the 35,000 volts to all three tubes. The white wire is a 2 conductor (a shield and a hot lead solder point) HV sensing wire that shuts down the EHT board if an abnormal condition is detected.

There is one input connector and three output connectors on the HV splitter. Some splitters are labeled as to the input and output, in reality it doesn’t matter what lead goes where, as they are all tied together inside the block.

The most important thing to understand about the HV splitter is that the little white wire is the HV sensing wire, and has two connections, the shield wire and the hot wire. Each connect to two different solder points on the HV splitter. That sensing wire tells the EHT board if the high voltage gets too high, and then shuts down the EHT board. Note also that the wire is made of Teflon, can take a lot of heat, and is a nightmare to splice if you cut it ‘cause you’re too lazy to desolder it.

Cut the wire only if you’re stripping a set for parts!

The CRT output boards usually have a green LED on it. This is the G2 set up indicator light, the set of this is covered in the service manual.

14) Video output board/CRT socket: Slightly different variations depending on  which model of Barco 808 you have. The  BG 808s has a combined CRT socket and video output board, the others have a separate CRT socket, and the video output board is bolted to the chassis frame.  All three boards and sockets are identical, they can be swapped between tubes.

15) Astig magnet: Controls the astigmatism (fine focusing) controls. Each knob on the astig magnet rotates around the tube, and spins on axis,  so there are two adjustments per knob.

16) Focus yoke: Controls the focusing of each tube. Location on the tube neck will affect the focusing..

17) Deflection yoke: The H and V signals from the H and V deflection boards provide height and width to the image.  If you rotate the yoke, you’ll tilt the entire image.
